About Us

Gary Stones was educated at Parklands Junior School and Olchfa Comprehensive School, Swansea, and then at Leeds Polytechnic (now Leeds Metropolitan University). He qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in June 1984 and gained an Insolvency Licence - issued by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants in March 1987 having by then specialised in insolvency law for 6 years. Gary is also a fellow of the Association of Business Recovery Professionals (R3).

On 1st June 1988 Gary Stones, then aged 28, commenced practice on his own account under the style of Stones & Co. as a Chartered Certified Accountant specialising as an Insolvency Practitioner. From 1st April 1999 the firm has solely traded as Insolvency Practitioners.

To date Gary Stones has been appointed in well over 2000 formal insolvency appointments mainly throughout South and West Wales but with scatterings all over England including Accrington, Bath, Bristol, Bradford, Exeter, Gloucester, Huddersfield, London, Lutterworth, Newark, Newton Abbott, Selby, Manchester, Southampton, West Bromwich plus two in Scotland and one in Northern Ireland. Appointments include several clearing bank administrative receiverships. Several non Insolvency Act Court appointed receiverships have also been undertaken. Such cases have involved successfully tracing assets offshore in Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man and abroad in Ireland, France, Gibraltar, Germany, Spain, Bulgaria and The Netherlands, all of which have produced successful realisations.

On 16th April 1994 a local insolvency practitioner had his licence withdrawn by the DTI and at the express request of the DTI Gary Stones was appointed, via the respective Courts involved upon the DTl’s applications, as the replacement IP in some 85 cases within a period of two months and was able to deal with same immediately upon the making of each Court appointment. In April 2002 Gary Stones retired as the long serving President of The Swansea and West Wales Society of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. Afterwards he took part in a five member ACCA - Wales Steering Group following the devolution of ACCA into Wales in 2002 by the opening of prestige offices in Cardiff.

Amongst several high profile appointments dealt with by the firm over the last 27 years from March 2002 to March 2004 Gary Stones acted as Supervisor of the successful Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) of The Swansea City Association Football Club Limited, one of very few Football League club insolvencies handled by a provincial practice. Since then the rest is history!
